Dear Parents,

I am sure that those of you who bring your child to school and collect them at the end of the day will have noticed how much quieter the road outside school is lately!

This is due to your co-operation in using the World-Wide Gardens parking, or dropping off your child very quickly or parking further away from the site. As a result, the situation is much safer for the whole community.

I am so grateful for your support in this matter, as are the police and local residents. Long may this state of play continue!

4th May 2018

Dear Parents,

Following the last parent consultation evenings before Easter, it is very apparent that the children are really benefitting from the work that parents are doing at home on their child’s targets. Please remember to contact the teacher if there are any areas of which you are unsure – we know the children’s work can be tricky at times!

The attendance at all the curriculum and assessment workshops/briefings that have been held this year has been better than ever, and Miss Bethany will be sending out details of the next maths workshop shortly.

Our Facebook page is proving hugely successful in providing parents with yet another platform to keep up with the children’s weekly activities – many thanks to those of you who are regular followers!

27th April 2018

Dear Parents,

I have had many people from outside our Anfield family giving me tremendous feedback about the quality of the work at our Art Exhibition earlier this week. The children have really showcased their skills in observation, visual thinking and individual expression – vital creative skills for the future that awaits them!

It was lovely that so many of you could see the exhibition for yourselves, and I know the children truly appreciated the opportunity to explain their work to you. As always, your support is invaluable in making your child’s learning experiences so special.

13th April 2018

Dear Parents,

The Science projects that you have been working on at home with your child made for the most fascinating displays in the classrooms this week, and it was lovely to welcome so many of you yesterday to share your collective work.  The focus on further developing skills in scientific inquiry is vital to ensure the children understand the different ways that scientists explore or seek truth in the world.

Instead of students this morning, I was greeted by miniature famous scientists, from Aristotle to Albert Einstein! Each “scientist” could share a little bit of information about themselves and also their main accomplishments, all of which have contributed greatly to life today. It has certainly been a fabulous week of science and I hope you have also gained insight into how to work in a more scientific manner, and also enhance your skills as an effective communicator!

23rd March 2018

Dear Parents,

Easter is the most important festival in the Christian calendar, celebrating Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, three days after he was executed. The Easter story is at the heart of Christianity, and this was superbly observed at the Easter Assembly on Wednesday through hymns, prayers, poetry, artwork and the sharing of Lenten promises that the children have been working hard to uphold. My thanks go to Ms. Sharon and Ms. Analiese for their thorough preparation of this most special event, and to parents and students for their active participation.

I hope you have a restful holiday and we look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday 10th April.

Dear Parents,

The Anfield Fair is always eagerly anticipated and well attended and this year didn’t disappoint. All staff and the Friends of Anfield worked as hard as ever to create a fabulous event for our school community. It was lovely to see our family come together and I truly appreciate everyone who attended in making it extra special.

Thanks to Mr. Calum’s super organisation, we had a fabulous Sports Day today and the children certainly excelled themselves, with 100% effort made in all track and field events. I think they will sleep soundly tonight……

9th March 2018

Dear Parents,

Come rain or shine, the Anfield Fair is always the day our family looks forward to most of all. At our whole school community event, there are a wide variety of traditional stalls and games, delicious treats to eat and an opportunity to drench the teachers!

Please come along and bring the entire family and all of your friends.

We look forward to sharing the fun!

2nd March 2018

Dear Parents,

Evil spirits were certainly seen on their way, this week, at our two Lion Dances. Clashing cymbals, a gong and drums accompanied these extremely lively performances, making as much noise as possible! All of the children also greatly entertained parents at their Chinese New Year Assemblies, with depictions of traditional tales and customs – many thanks to all who shared these events with us and provided such stunning costumes.

I have really appreciated your support recently in making use of the increased parking space at World Wide Gardens – the roads around school have been much safer as a result. If a helper generally collects your child from school, please could you remind them to supervise your child closely when leaving the premises, and take care to hold
their hand when crossing the road.

2nd February 2018

Dear Parents,

Over the last few days, I have been spending time in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 classrooms, observing the children come to terms with the demands of mastering a range of mathematical concepts and skills.
The level of challenge was extremely high, especially in tasks that required the children to independently apply concepts to new problems in unfamiliar situations.
The continuous promotion of a positive mindset encouraged all students to build on existing levels of confidence and resilience to enable them to really achieve. It has certainly been a most fascinating week!

26th January 2018

Dear Parents,

As you will all be aware, we have had a number of meetings in the last few weeks with the Local Councillor, the Traffic Department, the HK Police Force Traffic Enforcement and Engagement Group and the Management Committee of World Wide Gardens regarding the number of private cars belonging to our parents that are presently causing an obstruction to traffic flow by parking on the roads around our site.

The main worry for the Police is for the health and safety of our children and parents as they see the potential for a serious accident resulting in grave injury.

I am extremely grateful to those of you who use the parking spaces in World Wide Gardens and strongly urge all parents to make use of this provision, or else travel by school bus, taxi, public minibus or on foot.
We will be continuing our discussions with the above departments as they monitor the private car traffic in the area around the school. Further action will have to be taken if the high number of private cars parking on the local roads continues.

Please have the safety of our school community at the forefront of our mind – it would be dreadful if one of our families suffered as a result of inconsiderate parking.

19th January 2018

Dear Parents,

Our Year 4 students have had the most exhilarating few days at The Salvation Army Bradbury Camp, Cheung Chau, organised by Dragonfly. They have been challenged with a whole range of activities including cave exploring, team building exercises and survival techniques!

For many students, it was their first experience of being away from their parents overnight, which can be an overwhelming experience, but they coped admirably.  The teachers have shared many instances where the children have surprised them with their tenacity and “have a go” attitude. Year 5’s turn next week!

15th December 2018

Dear Parents,

The last few weeks of the Autumn Term have passed in a flash and all members of our Anfield family are looking forward to the Christmas festivities and a well-deserved rest.

The support of our parents is, as always, vital to the work we do at school, and my appreciation for you all in this regard is not diminished.

I look forward to welcoming the students back to school on Monday 8th January 2018. Wishing you a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

8th December 2017

Dear Parents,

The children have certainly been out and about this week!

Year 5 students had a wild time being scientific at ICHK on Tuesday, when they found out more about the environment we live in and also how to work safely in it.

The students in the choir fully demonstrated their talents during their annual Christmas visit to the Ma Hing Chou Home for the Elderly yesterday and the residents definitely appreciated the spreading of Christmas cheer!

1st December 2017
Dear Parents,

Sunday 3rd December will be the first day of Advent this year - a time of preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas. The school resounds with the singing of carols and seasonal songs, and is now suitably adorned with ornaments and baubles. Festive indeed!

You will have received an invitation to our Xmas concerts by now – please book tickets for the performance as soon as possible so that we can have an accurate indication of numbers attending on the day. You are in for a treat!

24th November 2017
Dear Parents,

We have been celebrating the value of learning to spell this week with the culmination of the Spelling Bee competition yesterday. The profile of spelling has certainly been raised during this event and the competition was fierce!

It was lovely to catch up with so many of you at Parent Consultations today and I know that the teachers have really appreciated your commitment to working together on the suggested targets for your child. Strong partnerships really pay dividends!

17th November 2017
Dear Parents,

I am very much looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow, when Nick Capron, an Ofsted Registered Inspector based in the UK, will be delivering a seminar for parents from 11 am until 1 pm. He will focus on what to look for when choosing a good school for your child.

If you have any friends or colleagues who may find this seminar of interest, bring them along - it is certainly an event not to be missed!

10th November 2017
Dear Parents,

In assembly on Monday, we introduced the Anfield Attribute for this half term – Nurturing.

Your child may ask for your help this weekend in designing a character to represent what nurturing means, which the whole Anfield school community could then adopt.

The winning design will be displayed around the school to reinforce our focus on this most important attribute and also at our Kindergartens. We look forward to viewing all your creations!

3rd November 2017
Dear Parents,

The children have certainly felt the change in the weather and were well wrapped up in their Anfield sweatshirts this week!  The Year 4 boys were not hampered by the cooler temperatures, however, when they played basketball against IMS on Wednesday. Only one game was lost, meaning we achieved 2nd overall, with all of the children showing true sportsmanship.

Our Maths Week activities have kept all students challenged and on their toes with particular focus on mastery in reasoning – no doubt you have been having a go with associated activities at home.

Please remember to check our Facebook page regularly to keep up to date with our curriculum activities and community events – your child will really enjoy explaining them all to you!

20th October 2017
Dear Parents,

Harvest Festival is always one of our most well attended celebrations as we give thanks for food grown on the land and a successful harvest.

Today we sang, prayed and collected together baskets of fruit and food. We were reminded of all the good things God gives us and that we should share our good fortune with others.

Your most generous donations were sent to the Missionaries of Charity yesterday, who will distribute the food to those who are poor and in need. As always, your support is very much appreciated.

Wishing you a restful mid-term break,

13th October 2017
Dear Parents,

Our parents had plenty to think about following the Mindfulness and Mindset Workshop yesterday, there having been much discussion regarding the rising tide of mental health issues amongst young people across the world.

Strategies were shared as to how schools and parents can help our children be more resilient, be willing to talk about their worries and concerns, and therefore more able to cope with the considerable challenges they face as they grow up.

I know that this is a priority focus for our parents and we will be contacting you regularly with updates about what we are doing in school and also with useful information as to how you can further support your child in this area at home.

29th September 2017
Dear Parents,

It was lovely to welcome back Toby Newton from the International College of Hong Kong (ICHK) on Tuesday. Parents from Year 5 and 6 were updated about the pathway to ICHK and the innovative curriculum on offer there. They also attended the ICHK Open Day yesterday to explore the rural campus and see learning in action.

Due to the very hot weather warning, Sports Day had to be cancelled today, but the annual Anfield picnic is next week and it will be great to catch up with you then - I hope you have your buckets and spades packed!

Wishing you a restful Public Holiday on Monday and Thursday,

22nd September 2017
Dear Parents,

Our Year 5 and 6 students, and many of their parents, had an absolutely fabulous time at ICHK (International College of Hong Kong) on Monday this week. The children took part in a variety of workshops including drama, science, human technology and poetry. Feedback from parents has been very positive and I know that many of the Year 6 students are already looking forward to attending ICHK in August. Year 7 will be upon them before they know it!

15th September 2017
Dear Parents,

Our Cheese & Wine Evening was an extremely sociable event, indeed!

It provided an opportunity for new parents to meet other parents in the Anfield family and also to have some dedicated time with the class teacher to learn more about learning and teaching in their child’s particular year group.

There was a real buzz around the room and I am sure this will be repeated at the Ampleforth Cheese & Wine event tonight, when I shall be welcoming Father Wulstan, Headmaster of Ampleforth College.  I look forward to seeing you later on!

Kind regards,

8th September 2017
Dear Parents,

Being charitable is an extremely important aspect of life at Anfield. It strengthens social bonding and contributes to the creation of inclusive societies.
Tuesday, this week, was the International Day of Charity. Each year is it celebrated on September 5th to commemorate the anniversary of the passing away of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 "for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace."
In advance, I thank you for your contributions to the many charitable causes that we will be supporting this year.

Kind regards,

1st September 2017
Dear Parents,

It has been an absolute delight to welcome all the students back to school this week! Those children who are new to our Anfield family are settling in nicely and have been well looked after by their peers.

We have many events coming up this month, so please keep a close eye on the emails which will be coming your way thick and fast. Our Facebook page is proving very popular and is an excellent way of keeping up to date with Anfield news on our site, as well as the Kindergarten sites.

Fingers crossed the tropical cyclone doesn’t prove too severe over the weekend….

25th August 2017

Dear Parents,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the start of another exciting year at Anfield! Your children will be rested after their summer break and ready to be challenged in their studies. I hope that returning students will have taken note of the targets set for them in June, which will help them make maximum progress.

Once again, I am reassured that the strong and effective working partnership between home and school will continue to the benefit of all students. Our focus on providing a healthy school environment ensures that you can be secure in the knowledge that the children are returning to a safe and healthy place of learning.

For those of you who bring your child to school by private car or taxi, please remember that there is no parking or dropping off on the roads outside or near to the school. To avoid traffic congestion and the resulting dangers to the children, please park in the public spaces at World-Wide Gardens or else park well away from the immediate area. Your help in this matter is much appreciated.

Please remember that if you have any queries, however large or small, my door is always open.

Kind regards,

Vicky Davies
