Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Our K2 children amazed and stunned us all with their wonderful Chinese New Year performance on Friday. With such a short time to practice after the holidays, they surpassed all of our expectations. We are very proud of them all.

Check out our Facebook page for some photos and videos from the performances.

Following the EDB announcement of the Chinese New Year holiday advancement, we are so disappointed to have to close the school to pupils this week.  Staff are using the opportunity to sort, clean and sterilise our toys and environment.  They are also planning exciting learning opportunities for children on their return to school after the CNY holiday.

I am pleased that we will still be able to hold our lovely CNY events after the holiday and look forward to having families join us on Friday 15th February for the K2 children’s performances and for the professional Lion Dance on Friday 22nd February.

We wish all of our families a healthy and happy Year of the Pig.

After the excitement of Christmas, with wonderful performances from all of our children on the large stage and parties, we have begun our new school term with gusto!

The teachers have designed exciting themes to engage the children in their classes this term. As they know the children in their class so well, they have considered themes to motivate them, as well as meeting their needs and moving on the learning. These range from winter to transport to healthy eating.

It was wonderful to be able to show off our fabulous environment with prospective parents during our Open Day on Saturday 19th January.

We are also preparing for Chinese New Year. The Mandarin teachers are teaching about the customs and why they are important to many of our families. All of our children are enjoying learning how to cook Tong Huan and our K2 are practising a very exciting performance to share with all parents on Friday 1st February. We are also looking forward to the professional Lion Dance at school on Wednesday 30th January.

This month’s Fairytale theme is really capturing the imagination of all of our children. Through well-known stories, such as ‘The Gingerbread Man’, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and others, the learning that the children have enjoyed has been outstanding. We are looking forward to a magical end to the theme with a Fairytale Ball on Friday.
One of the Anfield priorities is to enhance partnership working and community collaboration. One of the ways that we do this at the Kindergarten is by raising children’s awareness of the needs of those less fortunate than ourselves. Our children have worked with their families to create a Box of Hope for Christmas. The response has been overwhelming and I feel certain that many children will be thrilled to open their surprise boxes later this year.

What a fabulous start to the school year!

It is lovely to see how well our children have settled into their new classes and how much progress they are already making.  They love the range of activities that they access – PE, music, cooking, Mandarin, library, phonics and just playing with our lovely toys and classroom resources.

The staff all enjoyed spending time with our current parents informally during our Cheese and Wine evenings and meeting prospective parents at our recent Open Day.

This week, the children came to school in their casual clothes in support of the Hong Kong Community Chest.  Our aim is to encourage our children to understand that we all have a social responsibility towards others. Supporting charities throughout the year will be a part of that.
We are looking forward to an exciting year at Anfield International Kindergarten, with many events and lots of learning to enjoy.
