Anfield International Kindergarten is a private, co-educational Catholic institution dedicated to providing young children with an enriching, stimulating and caring environment in which to develop, learn, and become equally proficient for progression into either local or international primary school systems. We offer a British curriculum in an international setting.

Anfield International Kindergarten is founded on our conviction that children’s moral, social, and physical development are as important as their intellectual development.

Our mission is to provide young children with a safe and caring environment away from home, in which they can prepare for their future education and at the same time take the first steps towards becoming well-rounded individuals.


Educational Programmes

Kindergarten 1

Daily: Monday – Friday (5 days per week)

Age group:  Students who are 2 years 8 months old by September 1st of the new academic year.


  • Morning session: 8:30am – 11:30am
  • Afternoon session: 12:30pm – 3:30pm
  • Full Day Session: 8:30am – 3.30pm (Quiet time and lunch time included)

Medium of Instruction: English

Specialist Teaching: Mandarin, Physical Education and Music

Excellent teacher pupil ratio: One teacher for a maximum of 10 pupils

Kindergarten 2

Daily: Monday – Friday (5 days per week)

Age group: 

Students who are 3 years 8 months old by September 1st of the new academic year.


  • Morning session: 8:30am – 11:30am
  • Afternoon session: 12:30pm – 3:30pm
  • Full Day Session: 8:30am – 3.30pm

Anfield has designed its curriculum to reflect the needs of the multi-cultural environment in which we are living. It is challenging and is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage of the English Curriculum.

This is a holistic approach which, through themes, looks at key learning areas alongside a moral and spiritual foundation.

The Early Years Foundation Stage

Seven areas of learning form the basis of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum these are:

 Personal, Social & Emotional Development

  • Developing confidence & independence while learning to concentrate & enjoy sharing as part of a group
  • Developing positive attitudes & dispositions towards their learning

 Communication and Language

  • Talking and communicating in widening range of situations, responding to adults and to each other
  • Practising and extending vocabulary
  • Listening carefully

Physical Development

  • Developing and practising fine and gross motor skills
  • Increasing their understanding of how their bodies work and what they need to
    do to be healthy and safe


  • Reading and writing: exploring, enjoying and learning about words and text

  • Exploring and sharing their thoughts ideas and feelings through a variety of art,

Child’s knowledge is not naturally separated into different subjects. When a child is cooking,

for instance, they may be learning about science, mathematics, health education and how to

collaborate and share whilst at the same time extending their vocabulary and language skills.

Young children learn through a wide variety of play activities. Play takes many forms both indoors and outdoors.

Teachers recognise the significance of these activities and are able to promote children’s understanding and learning.


Mandarin is a feature of our programme and all kindergarten children will receive at least 30 minutes of Mandarin instruction per day.

K1 Mandarin curriculum

  • Developing speaking and listening skills through purposeful activities.
  • Following instructions to carry out tasks.
  • Introduction of basic vocabulary – single words, short phrases and simple sentences.
  • Saying simple rhymes and singing simple songs.
  • Word recognition – 20/30 theme-related basic words.

 K2 Mandarin curriculum

  • Developing speaking and listening skills through purposeful activities.
  • Following instructions to carry out tasks.
  • Developing clear pronunciation.
  • Development of vocabulary: construct simple sentences; ask simple questions; make simple requests; comment on stories.
  • Development of reading comprehension skills.
  • Saying rhymes and singing songs.
  • Word recognition – 50 theme-related words.
  • Writing 20 theme-related simple words.

 Other aspects of the curriculum


Teachers must be able to observe and respond appropriately to children. Our teachers make continuous detailed observations of our students. These help them to recognise patterns in children’s play, how they interact with adults and each other, what they are interested in and how learning can be extended.

For each child, our teaching staff compiles and reviews a personal portfolio, documenting his/her process of development and learning in all areas of personal, social, emotional, intellectual and physical development. Through this process teachers and parents together can better identify and meet the child’s unique developmental needs.

We hold regular parent conference days where parents have a scheduled appointment to discuss their child’s progress and development.


At Anfield every student has a “home communication” book. The teacher will use this book to let you know the theme your child is studying and to let you know what can be done at home to support what is happening within the class. The teacher may ask you to “find” something with your child which is related to the theme or is part of our Progression in Phonics programme. It is also important that your child has something for “show and tell” on the correct day. This is far more beneficial than “formal” homework. As your child progresses through the Kindergarten a reading system will be introduced. This includes several reading programmes. Once this has begun we will ask for parental involvement at home.

Field trips

At Anfield we work on a theme approach to learning and we like to extend the classrooms out into the local environment. Field trips will complement a particular theme. Parental help is welcomed for field trips to ensure the success and safety of the trip.

Special days

We celebrate several special days through the school year to complement aspects of the

curriculum. These may be linked to the following areas: community charity support;

religious festivals; Sports day; Christmas concerts; water fun days.


 Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Meeting other children, not only in school, sometimes 1-1.
  • Learning to share & play together at home as well as outside.
  • Managing personal needs such as going to the toilet, dressing, opening doors, using tools, cutlery, comb, toothbrush.
  • Expressing feelings, talking about being happy, sad, hurt, upset, angry.
  • Discovering the pleasure of giving to others.
  • Learning to meet expectations of behaviour.
  • Learning how to express their frustrations acceptably.
  • Learning respect for different people & places.
  • Experiencing wonder.

 Communication, Language and Literacy

  • Talking about everything done & seen together.
  • Sharing songs, poetry & rhymes.
  • Enjoying books; visiting the local library.
  • Recognising & reading the labels on packets etc.
  • Playing word games, finding words that rhyme, I-spy etc.
  • Beginning to write names & other words that are important to them.
  • “Writing” birthday cards, shopping lists & letters.
  • Write your child’s name & help him or her to recognise it.

Mathematical development

  • Talking together about the world – how much? How many? How big?
  • Learning about shape: eg circles, triangles, squares, cones, cubes – when shopping.
  • Packaging has edges, corners & angles, insides & outsides.
  • Learning the language of maths: height, weight, distance, quantity.
  • Number: learning number rhymes & songs, playing counting games, counting everyday objects.
  • Recognising everyday numbers – telephone, front door, car number plate, finding any special number.
  • Sorting: sorting out the sock drawer, which goes with which & why.
  • Setting places at table.
  • Proportioning food, sharing sweets.
  • Matching: matching clothes, colours, patterns.
  • Building with bricks, stacking & lining them up, discovering symmetry.

Understanding the World

  • Talking together about ourselves, our house, our road, where we live, where we shop, what we buy.
  • Exploring & recognising living things, pets, animals, plants.
  • Talking, listening & asking questions.
  • Exploring with all our senses: tasting, touching, smelling, looking & listening.
  • Experimenting, investigating everything in the child’s environment.

Physical development

  • Playing out of doors with balls & ropes, visiting a park play area together.

Expressive Arts and Design
