Educating Hearts & Minds

We are proud of the range of leadership opportunities that we provide for our students at Anfield School. Our three distinct student organisations comprise representatives from each class, from Year 1 to Year 6, as well as our St. Bosco Centre. These student leadership opportunities enable students to develop essential life skills such as collaboration, communication, organisation, decision-making, and leadership.
Children in each organisation participate in meetings where they can make suggestions and help bring about positive change in the school. Representatives from each class are chosen through a secret vote, and students can nominate themselves by preparing a speech, video, or presentation outlining why they should be democratically elected by their peers.

The Anfield School Council consists of children eager to engage in projects that enhance our school environment. They play a crucial role in sharing information with classes and organising votes on various initiatives. Recently, they assisted in creating informative posters to raise awareness about events within the school community and ongoing projects include developing strategies to foster inclusivity during outdoor play.

We celebrate the diversity of our Anfield family, as there is so much to learn from one another. The International Mindedness Ambassadors are passionate about our world and aim to educate others on protecting our planet while respecting traditions and cultures globally. They help their peers understand the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and deliver P.S.H.C.E. linked themes to the school community through our assemblies.
The Digital Leaders are enthusiastic about technology and aim to inspire others to use it effectively in school. They share innovative ideas and emphasise the importance of online safety. Additionally, they explore various ways to utilise our S.T.E.A.M. lab and play a vital role in organising our annual Hour of Code activities.

Our Student Librarians are integral to promoting a love of reading and learning within the school. They assist in managing the library, organising books, and recommending titles to their peers. Through their leadership, they foster a supportive reading environment that enhances literacy skills and cultivates a lifelong passion for reading.
Our House Captains and Vice Captains are Year 6 students responsible for leading the school houses throughout the year. Each student is committed to embodying the values and attributes of Anfield. They serve as a visible presence around the school, supporting all children in feeling confident and safe during playtimes while demonstrating excellence in their attitude toward learning in the classroom. Additionally, our House Captains and Vice Captains assist at various school events, such as open days and transition days for new students. You can spot our Year 6 Captains and Vice Captains by their hats, which are specific to the colour of the House they represent.

Our Year 6 students take responsibility for ensuring that the playground is a fun, active, stimulating, and safe place for our younger students during break or lunchtime. They lead specific activities, such as skipping games and team games, and support younger students who may find the playground overwhelming at times. The Play Leaders also assist staff with morning duties when the children arrive at school. These students receive training in the early stages of Year 6, equipping them to share their knowledge and life experiences at Anfield School with younger students. You can identify our Play Leaders by their purple hats and yellow hi-vis jackets, which feature the label ‘Year 6 Leader’ on the back for easy recognition.
Anfield School cherishes the House system as a means of encouraging cooperation and friendly competition within a supportive environment. All students belong to one of four ‘Houses’: Faith, Hope, Love and Charity.

Houses compete throughout the year in academics, sports, drama, community service, and other activities. House points are also used to reinforce positive behaviour, academic effort, positive attitudes, and endeavour, and can be awarded by staff for a wide variety of reasons. Once awarded, house points are never deducted as a sanction. Children accumulate house points and are awarded bronze, silver, gold, or platinum certificates, depending on the number of points earned each term. During our weekly Celebration Assembly, announcements regarding the total number of house points achieved by each house that week are made, and are also displayed in the lunch hall.
Each term, the points earned by all House members are totalled, and the winning House is presented with the termly trophy. To celebrate their achievement, a special reward day is organised for the winning House, such as team building activities by a third-party provider or even a reptile visit! At the end of the academic year, a final House trophy is awarded to the overall points winner. House Captains and Vice Captains are elected for each House from Year 6, providing positive leadership for all students in their House.
